I believe that Rush is a much-underrated actor his been nominated several times: Shakespeare in Love, Quills, and did pretty well in Pirates of the Caribbean. Geoffrey Rush came to films late in his career.
Shine was his star-making debut, and he made the most of it by winning the oscar for best actor an out-acting Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient) which is a great actor.
