Review of Shifty (2008) by Kerry K — 05 Dec 2010
An authentic British film about a day in the life of Shifty, a young Muslim drug dealer. Well acted and very realistic, I like the way it was set in a suburb as I felt it made it a lot more convincing.
Shifty is a well brought up and clever young man, which makes a big difference to the usual stereotype of this way of life being put down to a damaged childhood or poor background. The whole film is very understated and character driven, no over the top violence or gangster type scenes.
An urban gem.
