If you can get past some of the foolishness and unrealistic parts of "She's Out of My League", you will be rewarded to a pretty funny breakout film charged by a nerdy, but very funny Baruchel.

All comedies that stick with us over time have a few outrageous scenes in them. Whether it's Stiller getting his balls caught in his zipper or Jason Biggs accidentally streaming his "Blown" oppurtunity with a hot chick, no matter what the case these scenes are what we remember. (Spoiler) She's Out of My League has a few of those caliber scenes, like where Baruchel ejaculates in his pants and his girlfriend's parents walk in the room, having never met him before and he won't get up and greet them. Or when Baruchel's character lets his best friend shave his balls. Unfortunately, when there isn't outrageous scenes like those, there isn't much funny happening. Yeah, you may giggle the odd time, but when the film isn't being outrageous it feels out of it's element, and I don't think it stands well in the romance department.

We are used to seeing Baruchel in side roles in great Apatow films. This really was a starring vehicle for the deserving Baruchel. He proves no doubt with his performance in She's Out of My League that he is worthy of starring roles, as he has the talent to carry a film himself. He is in the class with Eisenberg, and Cera as a lovable nerdy guy that always seems to have funny things going on around him.

It seemed like the writers didn't care too much about being thorough. The characters just seemed to act unrealistically, stupidly, profane, and for me I just felt like I couldn't relate to anyone or anything that was going on. But, aside from those nagging problems most of the jokes hit well.

I have got to hand it to Director Jim Field Smith, he has made a pretty solid comedy for a debut director. I feel like he really got a lot out of Baruchel. With a decent start to his film making career, I expect to see more of his work in the near future.

The question most people ask about comedies is - does it set itself apart from other comedies. And I think the answer is - yes, but barely.
