Review of She's Having a Baby (1988) by Dustin K — 18 Jul 2007
Strangely, one of John Hughes unsung gems. I really enjoyed the exploration of their relationship, however it would have been more real and powerful without all the silly "object lessons" that Hughes stuck in there.
You know, the abstract interpretation of what is going on at the time (the women factory workers laboring after she doesn't take the pill, Kevin Bacon screaming as he is launched at a brick wall and explodes).
That stuff was kinda fun, but not really necessary and pretty unfunny. I think it really undermined all of the great things that were being established in this "real world" relationship juxtaposed against the relationships of Alec Baldwin's character and the in-laws.
Great performances, fun soundtrack, very sweet, and surprisingly powerful at the end. Overall, very enjoyable.
