Review of She's Having a Baby (1988) by Dean M — 06 Jan 2012
I expected this movie to be full of pregnancy and newborn baby cliches but was pleasantly surprised to find the opposite. The plot centres on Jake (Kevin Bacon) and his struggle to face the concept of marriage with his new wife Kristy played by Elizabeth McGovern.
It would have to be the most adult of John Hughes' movies but there is still some wonderful surreal Hughesiness in there to keep things interesting. I always love his take on parents and once again this movie delivers.
The start is slow and it is hard to warm up to McGovern, but the ending is full of emotion and will leave you guessing.
Besides the haunting Kate Bush song 'A Woman's Work', it would have been nice to have a few 80's hits in the soundtrack to liven things up as well.
It's no Breakfast Club, but it's John Hughes which never fails.
