Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Kyria A — 02 Apr 2008
Powered by a real and honest performance from Maggie Gyllenhaal, it is a well-made film. Sherry is a heroin addict recently released from prison and trying to reconnect with her daughter, who is in the foster care of her brother and his wife.
Gradually we see that nearly all the people that should be caring for her and helping her peice her life together, are at best indifferent. Sherry is weak-willed, selfish and needy in her pursuit to wrestle back control of her daughter while at the same time falling off the wagon, she is also a victim, abused by both family and the system.
