Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Steph H — 15 Nov 2009
Gyllenhaal is the gem of this film. She really does a great job at portraying the emotional immaturity and insecurities of a woman that went through what she did. The other actors did a decent job and the technical aspects were okay.
Overall, I found the movie predictable and excessively melancholic. The story was uninteresting and I suspect many people may not care for the movie because of a disconnect with the main character. Sherry, while making many poor choices is exhibiting exactly the kind of behaviors that are par for the course with her upbringing and pre-prison lifestyle. People that don't recognize that will find themselves frustrated with the character rather than learn from the character study.
