Review of Sherlock Holmes (2011) by Marianne W — 21 Jul 2012
I liked Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes. In this movie he used brains and brawn to solve the case of the hanged devil worshipper, Lord Blackwell, who appears to rise from the dead andin the process Holmes discovers a plot to blow up Parliament.
Rachel MacAdams is go as the love interest/ foil and is part of the plot. Professor Moriarty has a small part and in seen only in shadow. Jude Law as Dr Watson was so-so. Robert Downey Jr is the whole movie and if you don't like his physical version of Holmes, you will not like the movie.
He is several fight scenes and has his shirt off. Vastly, different from the classic version played by Jeremy Brett in the PBS series. I found some of the wierd camera angles and fast pacing a bit annoying .
The production values were poor they mixed street scenes with fake CGI background . I did not liked the final scenes on the bridge which also looked fake. However, the story and Robert Downney Jr. make the movie very watchable.
