Review of Sherlock Holmes (2009) by Philip R — 11 May 2013
I've never read any of the Sherlock Holmes books growing up. Like Iron Man, I went to see this movie because it had Robert Downey Jr. I thought Guy Ritchie directed a very entertaining mystery action movie about English detective Sherlock Holmes and his doctor colleague Watson investigate a series of murders that are apparently connected to occult rituals by the aristocratic Lord Blackwood.
I thought Downey's performance as Sherlock Holmes was brilliant, because he was so smart, tough, and funny. I liked his fight scenes, especially with the big French guy Dredger, played by Robert Maillet.
I was happy he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor â?? Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and his award speech was hilarious. I thought the performances of Jude Law, as Dr. John Watson, and Rachel McAdams, as the American femme fatale Irene Adler were good but Mark Strong's performance as Blackwood was very good.
Guy Ritchieâ??s version of SHERLOCK HOLMES had Great scenery, great visuals, and it was a very entertaining movie to watch.
