Review of Sherlock Holmes (2009) by Charlie H — 29 Aug 2014
A quirky and intelligent take on the great detective.
The story is rather peculiar: of religious cults and a chain of killings connected to a member of the aristocracy. This, combined with a shady character at the back are enough to grab my interest but how this fits in Victorian London is anyone's guess.
The chemistry between Downey Jr and Law is not quite as good as that of Cumberbatch and Freeman but it is clear that they would make a good duo. In this adaptation Sherlock is more of a Victorian 007 than the detective from the books, so Watson has his hands full. Luckily, both actors do a brilliant job at portraying the beloved characters.
