Review of Shelter (2007) by Jose P — 05 Jul 2008
This is one of the most beautiful movies I have seen in a long time, what a nice surprise this movie was. I was a little reluctant to watch this movie at first because it was labeled as a "gay" movie, but I am glad I decided to rent it. This movie should appeal to any sensible human being, whether you are gay or straight it does not really matters, it is all about life struggles, relationships and real life stuff.
The acting here is amazing, Trevor Wright provides the heart and soul to this movie what a an amazing actor this guy is, I just wish him the best in the future b/c he really deserves it. The rest of the cast is also amazing. Great soundtrack (just bought it on iTunes), beautiful cinematography (beach, surf) and a well written script makes this an excellent movie. The fact that this movie was done in 18 days also speaks wonders of all the people involved in this project.
Too bad this movie did not have a bigger exposure and a limited publicity.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend this movie. The acting is solid (specially Trevor Wright), cinematography is stunning and the script although not ground breaking (coming of age, coming out story) is good and deals with real life issues. I don't consider this a gay movie, this a real love story, regardless of the characters sexual orientation. Just rent it and watch it and you'll see what I mean.
