Review of Shelter (2007) by Steph O — 01 Aug 2010
The rolling ocean waves provide the backdrop and metaphor to this gentle, at times tumultuous, feel good drama that punches above its seemingly stereotypical premise. Trevor Wright plays conflicted artist and good guy, Zach, who longs to move away from a life of responsibilities and obligations, and finds this "shelter" in his best friend's brother, Shaun, played with great charisma by Brad Rowe.
The chemistry between the two is undeniable and their portrayal carries along a film that is earnest in redeeming its characters as well as itself. This is a simple, well-intentioned and yet beautiful little film.
And for that, it'll leave you longing for more. Recommended.
