Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Samuel J — 23 Jul 2013
"Who died and made you fucking king of the zombies?".
Director: Edgar Wright.
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis.
Running time: 99 minutes.
Country: UK, France.
This film really scared me because not so much of the zombies but because of the gore. The most goriest scene in this film was definitely when David was pulled back by the zombies and they ripped open his stomach and ate all his guys and stuff so he died. That made me cringe. That is the one scene that I just cannot watch at all. It makes me feel sick. Despite that, this film really made me laugh an awful lot because of Shauns mistakes and because of what Ed says. Both Nick Frost and Simon Pegg make me laugh a lot and I really want them to make another project.
Simon Pegg delivers an awesome performance as Nicholas Angel because Simon acts really serious and he acts bloody hilarious because of his mistakes he makes. He acts like a complete loser. Nick Frost delivers the funniest performance of the film and delivers a performance that is very similar to Nicks character in Hot Fuzz. The reason for that is because Ed was a swearing and arrogant bastard just like Danny is. Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg write this film ever so well that it manages to avoid disaster and a terrible film. The title is like a real spoof of Dawn Of The Dead.
Edgar Wright directs this film really well and makes the camera angles both hilarious and scary at the same time. This became a typical Edgar Wright film mostly because of the hilarious characters and the gore and violence too which is also used a lot in Hot Fuzz.
This film made me get into horror-comedies and also a bit of a taste into horrors. The one horror film that made me get into horror films is The Shining. Shaun Of The Dead is one of the funniest British films ever made and also one of the best British films ever made.
