Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Matt M — 26 Dec 2013
Shaun of the Dead became an instant cult classic and rightly so. The way in which Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg match up the horror genre with social and political sature by making use of dark humour is both impressive and intelligent.
The story follows the titular character, an unlikely hero in his quest to save his friends, his family and the woman he loves from a zombie attack. A witty screenplay, scattered with snappy dialogue, references to popular culture and many memorable moments, this film almost single handedly legitimated and brought some respect back to the horror spoof genre, to the point that it perhaps seems unrighteous to categorise it in such a way.
