Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Caleb P — 18 Apr 2014
The beginning of brilliance! I can't believe I didn't watch this film sooner. But now I have seen it, I can confirm its hilarious, quirky, and original as hell. Putting it into words is proving to be difficult, but I could not praise it enough! The photography and visual effects are surprisingly realistic, especially the gore and zombies, they were a lot more tasteful then I thought they would be. The writing, as per Edgar and Simon, is well thought through, witty, and well paced, with a realistic arc and moments that (surprisingly) brought me to tears. The acting is also beyond brilliant, Nick and Simon have some genius moments of comedy, and their friendship is one of the few onscreen relationships that is like a normal friendship, nothing seemed forced or rehearsed. Also props to Dylan Moran for acting a dicky character so well that, despite the fact I loved Dylan, I would happily punch the living shit out out of David.
Thank you for a brilliant film that begins the best trilogy I've ever seen.
