Review of Shaun of the Dead (2004) by Rory P — 13 Jan 2013
I think it goes like this - All of Edgar Wrights stuff is ultimately quite shallow, but he appears to be a talented director to a certain extent, fluent in whizz bang camera/editing pyrotechnics, He also has a good eye for comic timing. Shaun of the Dead is not as funny as Spaced, and Hot Fuzz is not as funny as Shaun of the Dead.
A significant flaw (besides it not being as funny as Spaced) is that you can't take the serious bits seriously because of all the overt winking/joking going on.
