Review of Shattered Glass (2003) by Clay B — 06 Jun 2011
I really liked this movie. The plot begins with Stephen Glass at the height of his career, where he is a star reporter for the New Republic and follows the chain of events which expose him as a fraud.
The film makes no attempt to build any suspense around his exposure, nor does it do more than hint at what motivated Glass. Instead the main focus is on his relationships with the rest of the staff, and examines how he exploits their loyalty, professionalism, and empathy in an attempt to survive. Although his crimes were fairly venal, one is left with the clear impression that the subject is at least something of a sociopath and it makes for a very entertaining and though provoking study.
