Review of Sharktopus (2010) by John A — 06 Apr 2011
Im usually all in, when it comes to anything from the mind of Roger Cormen. Anything quick and cheap where everyone is in on the joke ,is always good for a laugh when your not feeling in the mood for another Oscar nominated film.
But this one, I should have left on the shelf....
Combining a shark and an octopus into a killing machine sounded like a home run in the shlock B-movie department, but this one fell well short of its mark.
It did have some enjoyably bad dialogue and seeing Eric Roberts actually trying to act, beside some really bad actors made for a couple of memorable moments, but where this film let me down was its special effects.
And not because they were bad, but because they were too good. Now ,we're not talking Jurassic Park good...but average CGI you would see in any television show. It all felt like it didnt belong. I couldnt help but pine for the days when actors in rubber suits or a little Ray Harryhausen stop motion filled the screens in these type of films.
It all left me feeling a little cold and disinterested and wishing I'd put on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea instead.....
