Review of Shark Night 3D (2011) by Deena A — 04 Jan 2012
Lackluster teens in peril flick about a group of students who holiday on a island on a Louisiana lake and find themselves being menaced by the expected hillbillies and the unexpected sharks. Movie tries to earn points by fleshing out the characters, but they still remain shallow and only vaguely likable, and the shark animation is not bad (though the FX team hiliariously have rendered CGI models of the relatively harmless Sand Tiger Shark instead of the more well-known Tiger Sharks.
) Director David Ellis seems to want to be a great trash director, but like his previous disappointment Snakes on a Plane, he just doesn't go far enough (though the scene in which a one-armed victim wrestles a hammerhead tp shore does get close.
) Disappointing, but mostly watchable.
