Review of Shanghai Triad (1995) by Will G — 05 Oct 2007
From wonderfully talented Chinese director Zhang Yimou comes this lyrically beautiful film that at first seems to be inexplicably boring. The story takes a few senseless turns before it ends up being interesting.
Only recommended for Yimou fans or fans of lush cinematography (which it has in spades). Gong Li shows some of the potential here in 1995 that she has realized in several films since.
