Review of Shane (1953) by Mitchell Y — 05 May 2007
Sometimes feels like a TV-serial episode, very standard in its emotions and plot. Alan Ladd attempts a brave performance and the ending is certainly risk-taking, but the rest of the film doesn't rise above the sea of Westerns like it.
It's a classic good versus evil tale that is cleancut and moral and doesn't embrace any of the dirtiness of an Eastwood film or a later Western, but, then, it's the 50's, so what can one expect?
