An all time favorite!! George Stevens really was a maverick filmmaker among all. "Shane" is as much an assesment of the Western film genre as it is a loving homage to the old west. Violence comes across as an inevitable fact of life.
Tremendous film in every respect! Alan Ladd is so perfect for the part. I'm glad they didn't cast Montgomery Clift, but there would have been interesting results though. Jack Palance is awesome and Van Heflin is riveting, as is Jean Arthur.
