Review of Shane (1953) by Laura N — 02 Oct 2008
Generally westerns are not my thing. But this was very well done. There was a strong plot. With Shane trying to change his life, and be the kind of person that his friend, Joe was. And it also has a strong historical theme: the struggle between the ranchers and the homesteaders for the land in the West.
I found it kind of ironic that the good guys were the homesteaders, considering that ecologically the prairie was much better for pasturing cattle. And that ultimately, it was farming that land that led up to the Dust Bowl phenomenon of the 1920s.
