Review of Shane (1953) by Jonathan R — 15 Jan 2009
A western that is among the best of the genre's American mainstream. When Shane picks up his cross at the end of the movie and goes into town to settle things, it's as if his heart is beating to the same rhythm as George Bailey's; though perhaps he's more of a Sydney Carton.
Still, echoes of Dicken's most powerful book don't hurt the film's cause.
