Review of Shame (2011) by Khalid A — 12 Aug 2012
An amazing movie in wich as far as I could notice not everyone understood the true meaning of the title 'Shame'. It's not about sex addiction per say as more the things that a person filled with shame, selfloathing and resentment will do to drown all of those feelings into silence.
The disfunctional sex drive and habbits should be analised not from the simple perspective of an addiction, but as a result of something that Steve McQueen hints in such a delicate and inteligent manner.
The movie is about something even more tabu than sexual addiction, but even if you can suspect you can never truly grasp it. It's the shame of something that stained the past. It's the shame of doing something forbiden.
Ultimately it' s the shame that comes with the feeling that you've done someting wrong and thus you are a bad person. But as Brandon's sister sais in the last message:"We're not bad people we just come from a bad place".
