McQueen appears to have nailed the art of making emotive, visceral cinema and having Fassbender on hand to play the lead certainly helps. The film is dirty, seedy and challenging - the viewer feels like a voyeur peeking into the lives of the protagonists.
Not an easy watch but a rewarding one.
