Review of Shame (2011) by Facebook U — 09 Jul 2015
Shame is atmospheric and has some good acting, but it barely scratches the surface of addiction. Never once does it feel like this man's sex addiction is really negatively impacting his life. Yes the movie does point out how he's estranged from his sister, but she's so annoying I'm not surprised he's not close to her.
Nothing really bad happens till the end, and I will say this, the ending is very powerful and disturbing. It's hand down my favorite part, but despite that however, at the same time that ending feels out of place because it's 10 minutes of powerful imagery in a 101 min movie.
Now there's a bit of a contradiction. Sadly, all we really have in the end is a well made film that isn't really all that memorable.
