Review of Shame (2011) by David H — 18 Jul 2012
Shame.
Steve McQueen (director & co-writer) shows to have signs of a hugely promising career in the film industry. His only other film HUNGER was also a masterwork repeating the casting choice of Michael Fassbender in the leading role. Refreshing to see Carey Mulligan whom I absolutely adore, in a charismatic supporting part as the âweak sisterâ?. Sheâ(TM)s pure delight on the screen, always meets expectations and even sings in this movie. A gritty analysis about sex addiction. Discomforting at times, but bravely conveys the perils of sexual self-indulgence and evils of its sleazy pornographic biz tutor. Film demonstrates how hedonism hinders the hope of ever developing meaningful healthy loving relationships in this world. SHAME is an important film and cinematic success. Bravo.
