Review of Shame (2011) by Emily S — 20 Sep 2012
Brilliant performance from Fassbender. I have never, to my knowledge, met an sex addict, but I'm sure Fassbender pretty much nailed it (in his approach to how he would be if he wanted to nail everything in sight,,,).
Brilliant camera work on the shot of Fassbender jogging through the streets of New York at night. Very clinical looking colour palettes, presenting an acute dichotomy between the filth of Brandon's private impulsions and his sterile detatchment from real personal relationships.
Mulligan is also perfect at the emotionally volcanic sister, a waif looking for solace in unearnest and impulsive love, reaching out for her distant brother, A scene especially noteworthy would be Sissy's slow , hypnotic rendition of 'New York, New York'.
