Review of Shallow Hal (2001) by Susannah S — 28 Mar 2010

It's been a while since I saw this movie, but, I remember that there was quiet an uproar from the Overweight female audience on this one. As in why put a very pretty girl in a fat suit, and pass her off as a confused man's idea of what is hot? As in why does he have to have some kind of mental issue to see the beauty of an overweight woman?

If it wasn't for the fact that they threw in a few other "dogs" in this insult fest. I think a lot more people would have been disgusted with this film. However, the more you watch shallow hal, and the interaction between the main charactors, you get the underlying message. As in beauty comes from within, and is not all cosmetic.

However, I think the movie would have been better received in the role played by the beautiful Gwyenth Paltow would have been better received if it were played by two actresses. She did an incredible job in her role, but, since they didn't seem to have a problem doing that with the other ladies, why not do the same with the lead? One reason why I could not give it a good review.

I also thought Jack Black was pretty good, but, It was very hard to find his view of the women beliveable. I also found it kind of lame that an overweight actor was picked to portray someone who only sees skinny model-like chicks. I mean really, the movie should have been called "Shallow.".
