Review of Shallow Hal (2001) by Jace V — 17 Aug 2010
This kind of got lost in translation; is it a comedy? is it a drama? It tries hard to be both, but the humour just isnt funny and the serious\schmaltzy moments are too cloying and lack a certain spark.
The problems could lie with a chemistry-free partnering of Paltrow and Black, Jason Alexander's unfortunate 'wagging appendage' gag or the Farrelly brother's unskilled ability to mix high concept comedy with human drama.
Or just all of the above.
