Review of Shallow Grave (1994) by Michelle I — 26 Aug 2007
After becoming a fan of Danny Boyle's work I decided to expand on him and checked out Shallow Grave. Boy was I glad I did. Shallow Grave is easily one of the more underrated psychological thriller films made.
The cast is simply amazing. The character transformation and change that takes place with all three main characters from beginning to end is incredible. The film opens up with them looking for a new flatmate and having a grand old time joking around and being downright silly when it came to asking questions.
As the film builds on and the money is introduced, the characters and their relationships start to evolve and change for the worse. Christopher Eccleston's character becomes a total psychotic. Knods should be given to Fox and McGregor for their job well done in their roles as well.
In addition to acting, Boyle gets high marks in the cinematography department. And as with most of his films, the music is outstanding. Danny Boyle creates a tightly crafted and exuberant thriller about what people will do for money and the guilt associated with death and crime.
