Review of Shallow Grave (1994) by Matthew H — 21 Jan 2010
Shallow Grave is a bit weird and it kind of reminds me a little of Boyle's style in "The Beach" by the way the characters unhinge towards the end. The film has a lot of promise and each of the lead actors are fantastic in their roles, notably Christopher Eccleston. Kerry Fox is not bad in her part and Ewan McGregor does a fine job in the part of Alex but there is better to come from him in Danny Boyle's 1995 follow up "Trainspotting".
I like the concept of the film and the moral struggle that the three flat mates find themselves in the middle of. Danny Boyle surpasses Shallow Grave easily with Trainspotting but there is something oddly appealing about this thriller.
