Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Forrest P — 13 Feb 2010
I never viewed myself as the type of guy interested in love movies, but Shakespeare in Love completely got me. The actors are amazing, but then, they had a clever and inventive script to work off. This tells a story of Shakespeare and in a way I would not have imagined.
The romance is moving and works extremely well, but the comedy keeps it from getting too too mushy. All the gags work and it gets a big laugh out of me.
And the music! The music is absolutely marvelous. It instills a sense of comedy, romance, and Elizabethan style through out the picture and it sounds magnificent, moving the audience with the characters.
The film is shot beautifully and the story is told flawlessly. I was considerably impressed by this picture, and it has stuck with me better than I thought it would.
10/10.
