I give Shakespeare in Love credit for its interesting premise, but it's hard for me to see what the trappings of its genre conventions. Content with rom-com clichés and surprisingly little humor, the film never tries all that hard (outside the work of some talented veteran actors).

In the end, it just didn't hold my attention all that well. Afterwards, I found myself more interested in seeing a performance of Romeo and Juliet.
