Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Silvia O — 31 May 2010
"I will have poetry in my life. And adventure. And love. Love above all. No... not the artful postures of love, not playful and poetical games of love for the amusement of an evening, but love that... over-throws life. Unbiddable, ungovernable - like a riot in the heart, and nothing to be done, come ruin or rapture. Love - like there has never been in a play.".
With dialogue like that, how can you not fall in love with this film? This movie shall always stand as one of my all-time favorite romance movies, ever. It captures my heart every single time I watch it, and I continually find myself swept away by all it's romance, passion and poetry. Both Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow are a dream in this film - beautifully perfect in every single way and their love story puts most others to shame. Not to mention, the elaborate costumes and set designs. So lovely.
Perhaps I'm just a sucker for romance and all that so-called "sappy stuff" but so be it! This film feeds the romantic inside of me and I love every second of it. Every line is filled with passion and beauty and it truly is poetry in motion.
