Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Peter A — 28 May 2013
A fun emotionally-charged romantic dramedy. The melodrama is a bit too sweet for my tastes, but I did like the film as a fanciful take on the evolution of Romeo & Juliet and other Shakespearean works.
The actual of production of Romeo & Juliet during the climax is excellent. I thought Joe Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow had good chemistry, but I don't think Paltrow's was an Oscar-winning performance.
Densch either. But if anyone deserved an Oscar that year, it was Geoffrey Rush. This wasn't a Best Picture award winner to me, but it is really good, and worth watching over most of the mush that passes for rom-coms.
