Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Chiek E — 05 Apr 2014

Watching this oscar winner for best picture for 1998 16 years again later, I am no longer angry or feel that Saving Private Ryan(SPR) was cheated of the prize. Shakespeare in Love (SpIL) is much more sophisticated and complex movie compared to SPR.

The star studded cast meant more to me now having followed their individual careers for 16 years. The familiarity with them has influenced me a great deal. The film has obviously been and excellent spring board for many of these actors.

Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush,Judi Dench, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ben Affleck have made spectacular achievements since the SpIL at winning Oscars. On hindsight after 16 years, I have overturned my earlier misjudgement.

There was no miscarriage of justice that SpIL won the Oscars over SPR. The message of Love is and will always be greater than the message of hate and war.
