Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Christopher B — 09 Jan 2016
To really appreciate this film properly, you would need to be some sort of Shakespeare genius, which I'm not. But even with my limited awareness, the tale of Shakespeare's early life told in a Shakespearean manner really resonated with me in every way. The array of actors that show up is incredible, occasionally just walking into the story halfway through out of nowhere (a callback to Shakespeare) and Tom Stoppard yet again proves he is a genius.
If it has any flaws, its that to really appreciate the film properly you need a proper knowledge of certain things beforehand, which would explain the amount of people shouting "It's overrated!", "It shouldn't have won Best Picture!".
To which I vehemently disagree.
