Review of Shakespeare Behind Bars (2005) by Cameron C — 19 Aug 2007
Rogerson wanted his watchers to be touched not just by the Bard but really feel the humanity of the performers. I say, "Mission accomplished." For all the evil in the world, and all the evil that exists behind the bars of our nation's prison system, this documentary lets us know that regardless of how much we would like to think that criminals are monsters, they are human beings.
There is a fantastic contrast between the darkenss of prison and the intellectual stimulation and emotional provocation that Shakespeare brings to these 20 inmates. It's one of the better documentaries I've watched.
