Review of Shakes the Clown (1991) by Mike C — 21 Apr 2010
Bobcat Goldwaith's directoral debut is an interesting one at that. The film IS sloppy placed together, I can see exactly what it's trying to do, the seperate classes of clowns representing society and Palookaville representing our working class enviroment.
But, I guess this being Bobcat's first directing gig, he didn't really find the right direction to take this interesting concept. However, being a fan of really dark comedies, I will agree with a few other critics, this is totally the "Citizen Kane" of alcoholic clown movies.
Great cameos by early prime comedians; Adam Sandler, Blake Clark, Bruce Baum, Tom Kenny, and YES even Robin Williams as a foul-mouthed Mime (whoa, that was weird).
