Review of Shadowlands (1993) by Nadeem A — 11 Jun 2008
Attenborough's tender offering on the unfairness of death focuses on the relationship between Oxford Don and Writer C.S.Lewis and Joy Gresham. Based on William Nicholson's adaptation, the film does well to capture the intellectual struggles involved in the face of moral enigmas that sometimes and gradually encroach upon our lives.
The beautifully captured Oxford University setting turns this part of C.S.Lewis' life into an unlikely ephemeral stage for the soul's battle with itself. A compelling performance from Winger accompanies Hopkins in one of his more studied roles.
Highly recommended.
