Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Forrest K — 29 Nov 2009
Dafoe is amazing, as is the central conceit, but the film rushes along at a breakneck pace, never pausing to contemplate the implications of its revisionist history. As a result, the horror is muted, the satire is limp, and the story is nearly incomprehensible.
It's all reasonably entertaining, but this story (and Dafoe's performance) deserves a much better film.
