Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Alberto J — 03 Jan 2011
Besides Willem Dafoe's superb acting job as Max Schreck/Nosferatu, and John Malkovich's always fascinating presence, this is an amazing 2fer: A vampire movie about the making of a vampire movie. You get the suspense, and you get an interesting (albeit distorted) window into 1920's moviemaking.
It captures the style of 1920's movies but remains modern, and does it all without making it corny or boring. Dafoe's Nosferatu is so true to the original, you forget it's not. And kudos to Malkovich's portrayal of the autheur, who will go to any lengths to achieve his vision.
Being a movie buff, it's hard to say if this movie has a broader appeal to a general audience. But if this review intrigues you, than watch it. If not, skip it... or go to other reviews :).
