Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by J L — 07 Nov 2010
A study in obsession turning a man into the monster he's supposed to be filming. Malkovitch and Dafoe anchor a very, very good cast. The film-makers cleverly draw inspiration from the German expressionist techniques Murnau himself used.
Not as frightening as one might want, but full of fascinating interplay. The ending also leaves something to be desired - I wanted a bit more from Malkovitch's last monologue.
