Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Sam R — 19 Sep 2008
An almost perfect film. Dafoe is nothing less than absolutley perfect in the role of Orlock, driven by the same motives as the character in the mind of Murnau (Malkovich). Malkovich shows the true obsession behind the character of Murnau and the lengths he is willing to go to make his perfect film.
Though the tragedy of the story is very well played out, however, towards the end of the film, the charm and sense of eeriness created at the beginning of the film tend to lack a bit. However, it would be far easir to credit this film than to mock it.
An original take on the story of Nosferatu.
