Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Bob W — 15 May 2008
I kept wanting the niece to just turn her uncle in and provide the evidence, not protect her mother's feelings. C'mon, he's a killer after all! Suspense builds through dialogue, facial expressions and garage doors, but probably not very exciting by today's standards and sensibilities.
Hitchcock makes it believable and easy to imagine yourself in the main character's shoes. Joseph Cotten puts in a fine performance.
