Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Brad G — 31 May 2008
Another in a long line of Hitchcock films that I'm watching for a class. Not his best, surely. There's a lot of his German Expressionism roots revealed in the film, including a lot of dutching, and several non-continuous editing decisions.
The surrealist elements and the sub-par acting does not manage to entirely derail the film, however. Joseph Cotten's performance is creepy, but ultimately rather flat and un-nuanced.
