Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Nate W — 19 May 2009
The first 20 minutes of this early Hitchcock thriller is so sugary sweet that you just know it's not going to end pretty. Teresa Wright is exceptional as a young woman whose childlike admiration for her Uncle Charlie begins to crumble under the suspicion that he may have done terrible things, and then is torn between helping the police or her beloved uncle.
The musical score is a bit overwhelming at times, but the film is otherwise put together nicely and paced perfectly.
