Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Dave L — 19 May 2011
Why Joseph Cotten isn't regularly lauded as one of the greatest actors of our time i'll never know. He is absolutely fantastic in his role as the nefarious Uncle Charlie. Cotten plays the role masterfully exuberantly charming yet hiding a malevolence unbeknown to his sisters family.
Teresa Wright deserves praise for her performance as well. She begins the film as Cotten's innocent young niece, but as the truth unravels you can see her age with every scene the more she uncovers.
That childhood innocence and love for her Uncle slowly being destroyed. Hitchcock's favourite and certainly one of mine.
